Casillas could be available this summer.. Arsenal have made formal contact with Iker Casillas to register their interest but have made it clear he must cancel his Real Madrid contract to seal a move to north London, reports El Confidencial.
The Gunners are keen to sign the Real Madrid captain, but Arsene Wenger knows Casillas will demand big wages to make the move to the Emirates Stadium. He is therefore trying his best to make sure Arsenal do not have to pay a transfer fee.
Contract termination
Casillas has decided he wants to leave Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti appear to be preparing for his departure. Costa Rican stopper Keylor Navas has reportedly joined up with Los Blancos and is set to compete with Diego Lopez for a first team spot.
After a torrid season at the Bernabeu in which he did not feature in the league once—although did win the Champions League—followed by a disastrous World Cup, Casillas is on the lookout for fresh challenge and is hoping to agree a contract termination with Real Madrid.

The 33-year-old has three years left on his current contract but there is a chance Real Madrid will void the deal so he can seal a move to the Gunners. Having spent 24 years at the club at both youth and senior level, Casillas is hoping his dedication to Real Madrid will help grant this favour.
Arsenal interest
Casillas is reportedly keen to seal a move to Arsenal and Wenger wants to add him to his project. The Frenchman has already brought in two big names in the form of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the last 12 months and it appears he wants to continue in the same trend.
However, as Casillas is likely to demand a basic wage of €9 million-a-season, Wenger will only move for the player if he comes free. Otherwise it appears Colombian shots topper David Ospina will join the club.
Ospina dilemma
Whatever Casillas's situation, it must be resolved quickly. Arsenal have already agreed a transfer fee with his club Nice and are just awaiting the completion of a medical before the deal can go through. If Ospina signs, Arsenal are unlikely to chase Casillas as Wenger is keen to promote Damien Martinez to the first team squad as third choice goalkeeper and also wants Wojciech Szczesny to continue his development.
The opportunity to sign Casillas for free would be too good to turn down for Wenger. Not only would he prove a massive marquee signing, but his vast experience would prove invaluable on the training ground.
El Confidencial, who originally reported the possible cancellation of his contract seem to believe there is a strong possibility that Casillas to Arsenal could happen. Over in England, Ospina is still looking the much more likely signing.
