David Ospina agrees Arsenal contract

Ospina impressed for Colombia in Brazil..

David Ospina is on the verge of becoming Arsenal's third summer signing after agreeing a four-year contract worth £60,000-a-week, reports Goal.

The Colombian goalkeeper won over droves of football fans for his heroic performances between the sticks. It also attracted the attention of a number of football clubs, but Arsene Wenger moved quickly to agree a £3.5 million deal with his club Nice.

Now the transfer is on the verge of completion, but Ospina will first have to complete a medical before the deal can be rubber stamped and confirmed. He will return from holiday next week to undertake the test.

Contract

The deal is believed to be worth £60,000-a-week. Over four years, that will be worth £12.5 million to the player. The transfer will take Wenger's spending over the £50 million mark following the £35 million capture of Alexis Sanchez and the £12 million purchase of Mathieu Debuchy.

It is also another sign that Wenger is determined to complete his transfer business before the Premier League season starts. Wenger is currently travelling to USA with his Arsenal team for a pre-season fixture against New York Red Bulls.

Wenger talks

Before he left, however, he took the time to hold personal talks with the 25-year-old to make sure he wouldn't be tempted by late offers. Wenger promised Ospina he would be given the chance to challenge Wojciech Szczesny for the No.1 spot even though the Pole is likely to first choice for Premier League games when the season kicks off.

Ospina will become Arsenal's first ever Colombian player and the second South American to sign this summer following the arrival of Sanchez. It leaves Wenger only really hunting for a defensive midfielder and potentially a centre-back depending on Thomas Vermaelen's situation.

Transfer business almost done

Vermaelen has been linked with a move to Manchester United and it appears Arsenal are keen to sell for the right price. A player swap or a £12 million deal seems enough for United to get their hands on their second Arsenal captain in three summers. Wenger has admitted Vermaelen will need replacing if he leaves.

In terms of a midfielder, the same report claims Arsenal are in talks to sign Morgan Schneiderlin but the player is believed to prefer a move to Tottenham to reunited with former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino. Lars Bender and William Carvalho are also on the radar.
