United closing on Vidal. Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has given the green light over a move for Arturo Vidal from Juventus.
Goal.com reports that the Dutchman is an admirer of the player, having tried to sign him for Bayern Munich back in 2011. He missed out on that occasion, but is hoping to complete a deal this time around.

The site goes on to claim that the Red Devils are ready to launch a £42.5million bid for the player, and that Van Gaal has approved the move after offering initial encouragement to try and sign the player at the start of the month.
Impressive World Cup
Vidal was one of the World Cup’s star performers this summer, helping Chile to the knockout rounds before defeat to Brazil on penalties. He started three of the four games for his country, having been rested for the third group game against the Netherlands.
That prevented Van Gaal from taking a close look at the player whilst on international duty, as he managed the Dutch national side before arriving at Manchester United last week. He’s subsequently flown with the squad to America for their pre-season tour.
Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera are now part of that touring party, after the Red Devils spent big to bring the pair to Old Trafford. Others are expected to follow, after executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said funds were available to the manager to strengthen once again.
Past failure
Former manager David Moyes also had cash at his disposal after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson, but the additions of Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata failed to inspire Manchester United to a top four finish and the Scot ultimately paid the price with his job.
That’s not expected to happen to Van Gaal, and he should feel confident of landing Vidal after a turbulent summer at Juventus. The Italian giants have lost manager Antonio Conte, but added Alvaro Morata to their ranks - potentially in preparation for big-name exits.
Club director Pavel Nedved admitted as much at the weekend when insisting that the Old Lady don't want to sell top players - but they could if the right offers were made.
Transfer door open
"Our strategy is clear; we want to keep all our best players, including Vidal and Pogba," he told Tuttosport.
"We don't want to sell anyone, especially Vidal. Certainly, if there were a high bid for them, we'd have to think about it but we don't want to sell our champions. We want to be competitive in the Champions League and the only sales to be players who are not part of our plans."
That should serve as indication that the player is available if Manchester United are willing to spend big for the 27-year-old, and this latest indication is that Van Gaal is ready to make it happen and bring the player to Old Trafford.
