David de Gea's girlfriend wants him to quit Manchester United

The girlfriend of David de Gea has admitted she would prefer it if the goalkeeper quit Manchester United in favour of a return to Spain.

De Gea became the Premier League's most expensive goalkeeper after joining Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in 2011. The £18 million man was charged with the task of replacing Edwin van der Saar between the Old Trafford sticks and, after a sticky start, took command of the No.1 shirt.

Girlfriend isn't happy

Just when De Gea appears to be settling into life at Manchester United, his other half, Edurne Garcia, who cuts out a living for herself as a singer in Spain, has admitted she would prefer it if her boyfriend came back to play in La Liga.

"Of course I want him to play here," she told The Other Report. "Whenever you are closer, the better."

For those of you who have already diverted your attention to Google the lovely Ms Garcia, you can understand why De Gea would be willing to chuck his Premier League career away in order to appease the singing sensation.

Never fear, Manchester United fans. Even if De Gea is under the thumb, it appears his love interest is still happy to make the regular trips over to Manchester - for now at least.

She continued: "In any case, I support him in everything and want the best for him.

"Also, Manchester is not that far, I have spent many years going back and forth."

La Liga return possible?

De Gea left Atletico Madrid as a hero, but was quickly forgotten thanks to the emergence of the brilliant Thibaut Courtois. However, his stock has risen sufficiently as a Red Devil to start considering him a possible candidate for the No.1 jersey at either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Both are struggling to nail down a first choice goalkeeper with Iker Casillas struggling at the Bernabeu and Victor Valdes departing the Nou Camp. The fall of the aforementioned pair has given De Gea a chance to bag the first choice spot in the Spanish national side, which would afford him the chance to return to his home country a few more times a year.

Needless to say, we don't think he'll be handing in a transfer request any time soon.
