Manchester United sign Vanja Milinkovic

Vanja Milinkovic has signed for Manchester United.

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic from Serbian club FK Vojvodina via their official club website.

The Red Devils initially announced that a deal had been agreed back in May for the 17-year-old - who becomes the English club’s third summer signing after Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw - but negotiations between the two clubs were only concluded on Monday.

FK Vojvodina statement

This was revealed by FK Vojvodina president Zoran Scepanovic, whose press conference statement from earlier this week was published on United’s website.

"After lengthy talks that have taken place over the past month, we have finally completed negotiations on Monday and we can officially inform the public that our young and promising goalkeeper has joined Manchester United," Scepanovic told reporters.

He went on to add that Milinkovic, who measures in at 6ft 7in, will return to FK Vojvodina for the next season.

"He will remain in Vojvodina for the next year, where he will be under the supervision of our experts and coaches from the English football giants, while continuing to train and perform in the jersey of his home club,” Scepanovic continued. “This is an opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the realisation of this transfer. Can I point out Manchester United's very correct attitude."

Milinkovic: Star of the future

Manchester United already possess two first-class goalkeepers, in the form of David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard, so Milinkovic is very much a signing for the future.

The young keeper only turned 17 in February and will continue his development in the Serbian top-flight, from where United scouts will provide manager Louis van Gaal with detailed feedback about the teenager’s progress.

The Serbia Under-19 international impressed at this year’s UEFA Under-17 Championship and appears to have a huge future ahead of him.

But it could be some time before he features for Manchester United’s first team.

Man United to continue spending

Manchester United supporters watched their team secure the International Champions Cup with a 3-1 win on Liverpool in Miami on Monday night - but, despite the club’s impressive pre-season tour, it’s hoped that at least two or three more signings arrive before the transfer window closes on September 2.

Van Gaal could offload as many as six members of United’s first-team squad this summer, but the veteran Dutch coach is expected to secure the services of at least one first-class centre-back along with a top central midfielder.

But time is ticking down to the start of the 2014/15 campaign - less than two weeks now remain before the club’s opening Premier League match against Swansea City - and the longer is takes to bring in new faces, the longer it will take for Van Gaal’s new-look team to gel.
