Manchester United outcast Davide Petrucci has terminated his own contract in a bid to find a new team, according to a report in the Daily Express.

It’s said that the 22-year-old, who moved to Old Trafford from AS Roma in 2009, was so desperate to leave the club that he put an end to his deal there and is vying to join Romanian side CFR Cluj.

Petrucci at United

The youngster failed to make a single first appearance for the United first-team during his time there, and was sent out on loan to both Peterborough and Charlton Athletic after failing to impress in the youth setup.

Though his departure is unlikely to cause Louis van Gaal even a moment of concern United may just be disappointed over the manner of Petrucci’s development. When he first arrived in Manchester, for a fee of around £200,000, there were high hopes for his future, yet he never really progressed as expected.

The Van Gaal exodus

The Italian becomes the latest casualty of Van Gaal’s reign in the United hot-seat, with the likes of Alexander Buttner, Danny Welbeck and Patrice Evra the more high-profile names to have left in permanent moves since his tenure began.

The likes of Tom Cleverley and Javier Hernandez are also away from the club on loan spells this season, though it remains to be seen whether or not either man will have a future in Manchester when they return.
