David Haye hopeful Tyson Fury will return to heavyweight boxing

David Haye has revealed he would still love to fight Tyson Fury, but insisted his fellow British boxer has far greater issues to deal with than organising a fight with him.

Fury has not fought since he became the unified heavyweight champion in November 2015 after becoming overwhelmed by mental health issues.

The Brit’s trainer, Peter Fury, recently said he hopes his fighter will return to the ring this year with Haye having twice pulled out of scheduled bouts between the pair.

And although Haye was reluctant to be drawn into speculation a fight may finally happen, he was clear he would be interested in the bout.

‘I genuinely __have no idea [whether Fury or his team would be willing to negotiate].

‘The last thing I need to be worried about is him. He’s got enough issues going on,’ Haye told World Boxing News.

‘I’m not sure in reality if he’s even licensed to fight. If he does get a licence, it would be something to talk about, for sure.

‘But at the moment, it’s not really worth paying it too much mind.

‘He’s got enough issues outside of the ring to contend with.’

Regardless of whether he ever gets the chance to face off against Fury, Haye says he hopes his fellow heavyweight returns to boxing.

‘I hope he does [return]. I think heavyweight boxing is more fun with him in it than not in it,’ he said.

Andres Iniesta believes Marco Verratti is his heir at Barcelona, according to Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi.

The Italian delivered a masterclass against Barca in the Champions League last week as PSG ran out 4-0 winners at the Parc des Princes.

Verratti is high on Chelsea’s shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window, while reports in Italy claim that PSG __have put a an €80 million (£68.2m) price tag on the 24-year-old.

But during Verratti’s impressive display against the Spanish champions last Tuesday, Matuidi has revealed the details of a conversation he had on the pitch with Iniesta about his PSG team-mate.

‘At 2-0, we saw the faces of the Barcelona players and they seemed very angry with themselves,’ Matuidi told France Bleu radio.

‘However, I do remember one moment when I said something to Iniesta. When Marco was on the ground, I said to Iniesta: ‘that is your successor.’

‘He agreed and replied: ‘yes, that is what I think [too].’

Sutton United boss Paul Doswell has hit out at his substitute goalkeeper Wayne Shaw for eating a pie on the bench during the FA Cup defeat to Arsenal.

Shaw, who is also known as the ‘roly-poly goalie’, was spotted tucking into the snack in the closing stages of Sutton’s 2-0 defeat to the Gunners.

Before the match, odds of 8/1 were given for goalkeeper to eat a pie during the match, prompting accusations that the event was a publicity stunt.

And after the defeat, Doswell criticised his goalkeeper for the incident.

‘I don’t think it shows us in the best light,’ he said.

Goals in each half from Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott – his 100th for Arsenal – secured a place in the FA Cup quarter-final for the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger’s side will now face Lincoln City at home.

Ben Stokes insists he is excited to get his first taste of the Indian Premier League after being signed by the Rising Pune Supergiants.

Arsene Wenger hits back over accusations of risking Alexis Sanchez vs Sutton United

Arsene Wenger has hit back after being accused of needlessly risking Alexis Sanchez in Arsenal’s victory over Sutton United in the FA Cup.

Wenger opted to bring the Chilean on as a second-half substitute with just 16 minutes remaining, despite the Gunners having a two-goal lead through Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott.

Before the match, Danny Welbeck had already pulled out of the game due to the plastic surface, but Wenger insists Sanchez was able to cope with the demands of the pitch.

‘He is a guy who has a strong body,’ said Wenger.
