Arsenal are set to open talks with Southampton over a move for central-midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, according to Goal.com.
The report has suggested that Gunners chief Arsene Wenger has identified the Southampton ace as the player he wants to fill the anchorman role at the Emirates in the 2014/15 campaign.

Khedira
It appears that Wenger has stepped up his interest in the French international after the club previously attempted to land World Cup winning star Sami Khedira. A move for Khedira, however, has failed to materialise, with the Real Madrid man reportedly demanding a basic salary worth £200,000-a-week.
And, with the Gunners' pursuit of Khedira now seemingly over, it appears that Wenger could also make a swoop for Bayer Leverkusen star Lars Bender. It remains to be seen, however, as to whether the Arsenal chief will move for Bender as well as Schneiderlin in this window, but it appears that the French international now tops his list.
Valuation
However, the services of Schneiderlin will come at a cost for Arsene Wenger and Co. It appears that the Saints, who will be desperate to keep the World Cup star at the St Mary's, value the midfield man at around £18 million.
Arsenal, on the other hand, rate the 24-year-old at around the £15m mark, meaning the clubs may have to settle on a fee for the talented star. Gunners fans will certainly be hoping the club can land the midfielder in this window, as the club look to improve their options in the middle of the park.
The north London outfit only have the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini contending for places in the middle of the park, meaning Schneiderlin would act as a viable option for the 2014/15 season.
Future
It certainly looks set to be an exciting future at the Emirates, as the club look to build upon their recent FA Cup success. Wenger has already splashed the cash in this window, having purchased Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United.
The Gunners will be desperate to land the Premier League title next term, and it remains to be seen as to whether Schneiderlin will be on board at the Emirates.
