Golfing World News - July 17

Open legend Gary Player talks Tiger.

It's a beautiful day and I'm stood here at the first tee as the players begin their first rounds. Tiger has been through with Henrik Stenson and angel Cabrera as he makes his first attack on a major championship this year. We have a full start list, Ian Poulter will play through the pain after an injury scare earlier in the week and Scottish open champion Justin Rose will  be looking to capitalise on his fantastic form.

Golfing world took a break away from the golf course yesterday, as we were kindly invited to Gary player's annual brai. This year's BBQ event marked the 40th anniversary since Player's open win at Royal Lytham. Having won the open championship 3 times himself, the South African legend offered up his opinion as to who this week's champion will be...

Away from the open championship and today sees the start of the LPGA's Marathon Classic at highland meadows golf club in sylvania, Ohio. Beatriz recari will be defending the title she won last year as she tees it up with world number one Stacey Lewis and Azahara Munoz.

That's all for today from Royal Liverpool, we'll of course be back tomorrow with all the latest from the first round. In the meantime find us on Instagram where will be posting our favourite images throughout the day and you can find us on twitter and Facebook at Golfing World TV.
