Prince Harry is backing England's Women to succeed in France (©GettyImages). The England women's rugby team have received a royal backing ahead of their World Cup campaign in France next month.
Prince Harry has followed in the footsteps of men's captain Chris Robshaw by offering his support, and he urged the rest of the country to get behind the team.
Message of support
In a record video message, Prince Harry said: “While we cannot all be there at the tournament to cheer them on in person, we want to send as many good luck messages as we can to let them know we're right behind them. Come on England.”
Captain Katy McLean believes the Prince's backing has given them a boost ahead of their first match, which takes place on the 1st of August against Samoa.
She said: “It is incredible to know that Prince Harry is backing us as we head into the Rugby World Cup.
“It's given all the girls in the squad a massive lift and we hope it will encourage more people to to take an interest in women's rugby and follow our progress in Paris.”
Well-fancied
England coach Gary Street named a 26-strong squad for the tournament, which runs from the 1st to the 17th of August.
The team includes nine players making their World Cup debut as they look to build on three runners up finishes from the past three tournaments, and they will go in to this won full of confidence that they can finally go all the way and become world champions.
They are second favourites behind current holders New Zealand and will play Samoa, Spain and Canada in their pool.
