Andy Murray enjoys banter with Will Ferrell

Andy Murray is busy trying to lift his second US Open title this year after reaching the quarter-finals, but he still had time to meet up with famous actor Will Ferrell and it was just banter between the pair. 

The world no.9 stormed into the last eight at Flushing Meadows by defeating the dangerous enigma Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets and will face tournament favourite and world no.1 Novak Djokovic for a place in the semi-finals.

Busy time

Murray is hoping to end a poor run of form which has seen him go trophyless since he won Wimbledon last summer, a spell which has also seen his world ranking plummet.

It must be such a stressful time for the top-players on the circuit as they hope to swell their major collections and lighter moments cannot be too frequent.

Luckily for Murray, however, acting funny-man Ferrell was on hand to crack the jokes in New York.

Banter

The 47-year-old, star of films such as  'Anchorman' and 'Step Brothers', was giving an interview at the Grand Slam when Murray caught a whiff of some foul-play.

Ferrell had just told a reporter that he thought Murray's quarter-final opponent, Djokovic, was the best dresser at the tournament and the Scot came over to see what was going on.

The eighth seed confronted the actor on what he had just heard and Ferrell was forced to stick by his answer as he glanced mockingly at the bright red trainers that Murray was wearing: "It was the best I could do," he told Ferrell.

Poor fashion sense

Obviously it was all taken in good spirit but the British no.1 may really need to look at his wardrobe, this isn't the first time he's received criticism. As the saying goes; 'there's never a truer word said than one in jest.'

Earlier this year Maria Sharapova took to Twitter to mock the two-time Grand Slam champion. The Russian beauty accused him of wearing his clothes too baggy and recommended that he hire a tailor.

Clearly Murray hasn't heeded Sharapova's advice, maybe he's been focusing too hard on his performances.

US Open

He'll have the chance to show Djokovic that looking good off-court isn't as important as playing well on it when they meet in their quarter-final clash.

The Serbian slightly edges the pair's head-to-head record with 12 wins out of 20 and despite some poor form in the warm-up, Djokovic hasn't dropped a set thus far in the competition.
