Top 5: Contenders for Premiership Golden Boot Award

With matches becoming forever harder to score tries, a penalty or drop goal could be the difference between winning and losing.

While everyone loves to see a winger sprinting down the flanks and sliding over the try line, or a forward bulldozing his way through the opposition to touch down, it is the kickers that are the match winners.

Last season, George Ford picked up the title for highest points scorer with 250 to his name, just over half of his club Bath’s entire total.

Great season start

The new Premiership campaign kicked off in style on Friday, with Northampton Saints scoring eight tries in a 53-6 victory over Gloucester.

While those touchdowns effectively won the reigning champions the game, their fly-half, Stephen Myler, still managed to add the extras with 11 points of his own.

Myler was just five points behind Ford in the table last year, and will be hoping to claim the top spot this time around.

With the World Cup just around the corner, many players will be eager to impress their national team bosses to gain a place in the squad, especially with the tournament being held in England.

Here I take a look at the top five contenders for the Premiership’s highest points scorer title...
