Barcelona tell Premier League clubs to pay £25m for Pedro

Barcelona have alerted a host of Premier League clubs after placing a £25 million price tag on Pedro's head, according to The Express.

The Spain international was once a key player in the Barcelona set up but has seen his role in the team diminished by the arrival of Neymar. The emergence of La Masia graduate Munir has placed him further down the pecking order.

Release clause 

Barcelona rated Pedro highly enough to place a £115 million release clause in his contract. Signed in 2011, the 27-year-old looked set to see out his entire career at the Nou Camp.

However, Barcelona are now ready to accept a sum that is significantly lower than that release clause while his transfer value his still high. His current deal expires in 2016 and his lack of first team football suggests an extension is not on the cards.

Premier League interest

Luckily for Pedro, plenty of top Premier League clubs are interested in his services. The same report credits Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United with an interest for the player.

Arsenal look well stocked in the wide forward area having signed Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona in the summer. Doubts over Lukas Podolski's future could open up a space in Arsene Wenger's squad but if the German does leave there are promising youngsters in north London ready to take his place.

Stocked squads

Serge Gnabry and Theo Walcott will soon be vying for playing time as they recover from injury, meaning a £25 million outlay for Wenger may prove too much of a luxury.

Similarly, Brendan Rodgers spent big on the likes of Lazar Markovic in the summer and may not be able to comply with Financial Fair Play unless someone in the squad leaves.

United finances

With Manchester United still earning tens of millions more than Liverpool or Arsenal they are, financially, best placed to make a move for Pedro. Louis van Gaal has showed no hesitation in signing established stars since arriving at Old Trafford and Pedro could be next on his list.

However, signing Pedro would be another significant blow to Adnan Januzaj, who is already struggling for game time under the Dutchman.
