New York City have been known for their franchises in baseball, basketball and soccer, but now they are planning to crash the World Club 7s tournament with the included surprise package of Carlin Isles.

Isles is said to be the world's fastest rugby player, as the former American sprinter was once the 36th fastest man in America but now the 24-year-old has joined New York's rugby sevens team for the World Club 7s at Twickenham Stadium in August.

Historic Moment

In a recent interview with Premiership Rugby, director of rugby at New York City 7s Steve Lewis commented that this will be a historic moment for the team, and the young stars taking part.

"This will be a terrific opportunity for some of our younger local players to represent New York and USA Rugby, showcase their talents, and experience top-level competition," Lewis commented.

"As we approach the Olympic qualification year, we are hopeful this can be a springboard for these players to excel and challenge for national squad places in the near future."

Isles

The American has recently signed for Glasgow Warriors from his Colorado club Gentlemen of Aspen and is looking to make a lasting impression on the Scottish fans, and once Isles starts moving though the gears there is no catching this winger.

The 24-year-old can weave in and out of defences and can cause so many problems for the players he will be coming up against, and the former American footballer is a growing talent.

He is a joy to watch, but not for the opposition, and once he receives the ball he delivers a constant threat as YouTube is filled with videos of the American taking great teams to pieces and leaving them in his dust as he scores.

This unstoppable talent can change a game in an instant, and he carries experience as well having already represented USA 14 times.

NYC 7s

New York City's rugby team is a mixture between players who have represented their country and fellow countrymen who play their rugby in the heart of America, as Isles, Will Holder and Garrett Bender all have featured for USA's sevens team.

While the likes of Nate Brackeley and Chris Mattina are both part of the New York Athletics Club, and Seamus Kelly plays for the University of California.

USA's first game will be against RC Enisei, a Russian club, before they take on South African side DHL Western Province and a team which is still yet to be confirmed.

New York City will be going into this tournament as the underdogs, along with fellow America side Seattle and will be seen as an easy win, but the match-up will be in anyones favour.

If NYC remain solid in their defensive tactics and utilise the full pace and power of Isles over the three days, they could cause any team problems and possibly go further in this competition that first predicted.
