Golfing World News - July 29

Tiger’s FedEx Doubt, DJ’s withdrawal and Furyk’s Ryder Cup place.

Tiger Woods has confirmed his involvement at Notah Begay’s charity event casting further doubt on his involvement in the FedExCup playoffs.

Begay’s invitational takes place the Wednesday after The Barclays – the PGA Tour's first event in the season-ending series – and two days before the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Woods is currently 215th in the standings with only the top 125 players teeing off for The Barclays on August 21st.

Tiger will have to impress this week as he looks to defend his WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club but one person who won’t be challenging the eight-time winner is Dustin Johnson.

Johnson, who impressed at The Open but missed the cut at the RBC Canadian Open pulled out citing personal reasons.

Jim Furyk’s second place finish at the Canadian may have seen him extend his winless streak but the 44-year-old did have reason to cheer as he confirmed his place in the Ryder Cup team.

With the top nine players automatically qualifying for a place at Gleneagles it’s Patrick Reed who is currently just outside the points list.

In addition to the nine which make it via the standings, captain Tom Watson will also have three wildcard picks.
