Is Evra going to leave United now?. Patrice Evra may have only recently signed a new one-year deal with Manchester United, but that hasn’t stopped Juventus from agreeing a surprise package to take him to Turin.
According to well respected Sky Italia journalist Gianluca di Marzio, the Serie A champions have agreed in principle to a two-year contract with Evra worth €3.5million-a-year, and Louis van Gaal will consent to his sale. The French left-back was widely expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, particularly as the interest shown by the Red Devils in Luke Shaw was so high.
However, prior to departing for the World Cup in Brazil the club raised the eyebrows of plenty of supporters by confirming that he would be remaining with the former Premier League champions for at least one more season. Di Marzio however, claims this was merely a ploy.
Evra’s deal
The journalist writes on his website that United’s extension of Evra’s contract was put into motion purely to raise the value for his eventual sale. Though it’s reported that at the moment there remains no agreed deal between the two clubs, it is thought that Juventus will now seek to come to an arrangement with United which will see them take the 33-year-old on.
Due to him firmly sitting in the twilight of his career the fee for Evra shouldn’t be too high, implying that there isn’t any real reason why a transfer to Italy wouldn’t be possibly pushed through. Antonio Conte is looking to improve his squad within certain financial restraints and though proposals for the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Angel di Maria might be quashed in their early stages unless either Arturo Vidal or Paul Pogba are sold on, Evra is well within his budget.

His replacement
Thanks to the nifty piece of business which saw Van Gaal succeed where David Moyes had failed in bringing Shaw to Old Trafford, there’s no pressing need to find a replacement should Evra leave. The 18-year-old will now be given the perfect opportunity to make himself a regular fixture in his debut season with the Red Devils, and the only question which could be posed to the manager is who can take his place if he falls foul of injury or suspension.
With Alexander Buttner having been sold to Dinamo Moscow United are currently without a recognised left-back after Evra and Shaw are taken out the equation, but the latter’s tender years make it unlikely that another player will be purchased as cover.
