Five-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams was struck by illness during her second-round doubles match on Court No.1 on Tuesday, in what turned out to be an extraordinary display.

The Daily Mirror reports how the 32-year-old, who was playing with sister Venus, produced what is now thought to be the rarest moment, not just in Tennis but the world of sport.
Wimbledon's most successful female player, shocked the watching audience, as she appeared extremely fatigued and distressed right from the pre-game practice in her doubles match against German Kristina Barrois and Swiss Stefanie Voegele.
Never has anyone seen quite a display from a top athlete before. She was seen dropping the ball several times, hitting shots without barely any intent or power as many barely even made it to the net, as well as showing concerns that she may even faint.
The American sisters were 3-0 down in the first set when they talked to the umpire and finally decided to concede after Serena Williams served a whole game of double faults.
Illness
There has now been confirmation of what everybody assumed, that Williams was indeed suffering from a serious viral illness.
The signs were categorically clear for on-looking pubic to see, as they witnessed a quite upsetting form of events unravel right in from of them, bringing confusion and despair all around the historic grounds.
Williams, who is known for her 120mph serves was almost a completely different athlete altogether. Millions of fans were captivated in an emotional and concerned silence, with nobody really wanting the show to continue.
Future
Current world No.1 Williams, who was knocked out of the singles tournament by Alize Cornet now has to recover and get herself back to her explosive rhythm which guided her to unprecedented past success.
Her and her sister Venus, who are also five times doubles champions would undoubtedly be regretting their performances in this years championships, with the decision to abandon their match on Tuesday being one of the hardest they have had to make, considering their work ethic.
However, when illness strikes the best thing to do is to not take any risks even if you do happen to be an athlete at the peak of physical fitness. They will both - especially - have to pick themselves up now and get back to winning ways as soon as they can, to prove that they are, in-fact still the best.
