Golfing World News - August 29

We start with the Stephen’s Gallacher’s race for the Ryder Cup.

The Scot needs at least a second place finish at the Open d’Italia but has plenty of work to do after carding a level par round of 72.

After Thursday’s first round it’s home favourite Francesco Molinari and Bernd Wiesberger out in front, six shots clear of Gallacher. Molinari is aiming to repeat his success at his home Open in 2006.

It’s I.K. Kim who leads after the LPGA’s Portland Classic.

This putt on 13 was the last of her seven birdies to give the Korean a one stroke lead over Amelia Lewis and Jennifer Song.

Beatriz Recari is also in Portland and although she finished the day one over par, the Spaniard still found time to respond to our very own Cara Robinson’s ice bucket challenge nomination.

“Hi I’m Beatriz Recari, I got nominated by Cara Robinson to do the ALS ice bucket challenge and I nominate Craig Kang, Damon Hack and Catriona Matthew; here we go. Oh, jeez it’s heavy. One, two, three - oh my god. Wow that’s so cold. Thank you Cara, now guys it’s up - 24 hours.”

That’s all for today join us on Monday for more from the golfing world - before then follow us on Twitter @golfingworldtv and we’re also on Facebook and Instagram. Thanks for watching.
