Manchester United are hoping that Italian outfit AC Milan give permission to Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong to fly to Manchester today in order to complete a £10 million switch to Old Trafford.
This has been reported by the Daily Star, who have suggested that United have identified Arsenal target William Carvalho and Juventus ace Arturo Vidal as alternative options should a move for De Jong fall through before tomorrow's transfer deadline.

De Jong switch
It appears, then, that Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has identified Dutchman De Jong as the tough tackling midfielder he wants to bring to the Theatre of Dreams, as his club go in search of improvement.
The Red Devils have struggled in the middle of the park in recent time, with the likes of Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher and Co. struggling for consistency, and now it appears that the ex-Manchester City man could be on his way to Old Trafford.
Alternative
United will now hope that Milan give the player the green light to complete the move back to England. If the Italian giants don't allow De Jong to move on, then it appears that United will turn their attentions to Vidal or Carvalho - two players they've been linked with for some time.
Vidal, of course, is recognised as one of the leading midfielders in world football, whilst Carvalho could prove the cheaper option. But, the United hierarchy may well have to battle Gunners boss Arsene Wenger for the Potruguese star's signature, with the north London outfit looking to add him to their squad.
