Timothy Fosu Mensah is close to becoming Manchester United's latest summer signing under Louis van Gaal.
According to reports from The Daily Mail, 16-year-old versatile Ajax defender Fosu Mensah was at the Red Devils' training complex yesterday and his move from the Eredivisie giants will cost Manchester United around £300,000 in compensation.
Indeed, similar speculation cited by The Express suggests that the player has undergone a medical at Carrington, with rivals Manchester City and Serie A outfit Inter Milan having also been credited with an interest in his services.
One for the future
Ajax have a long and cherished history of producing some of Europe's top players and Manchester United's scouts have obviously spotted a real talent in Fosu Mensah, who is supposedly comfortable in defensive midfield and well as centre-back.
While he will presumably not be ready for first-team duty for some time yet, his arrival at Old Trafford would appear to suggest that Van Gaal is keen to ensure that the club continues to promote and nurture young talent for the future.

Further deals in the pipeline
The imminent deal for Fosu Mensah is slightly more low-key than Manchester United's previous transfer deal, with £59.7 million British record capture Angel di Maria officially unveiled to the waiting media on Thursday afternoon.
The Argentine's arrival could not come at a better time for a squad that has endured another difficult start to the season, although there have been notable questions over Van Gaal's transfer priorities given his current needs.
Manchester United - whose signing of Di Maria would appear to prove that a rare absence from the Champions League is not a hindrance when it comes to signing truly top talent - look as if they will be very busy indeed in the coming days with their experienced manager clearly on the hunt for further recruits.
Arturo Vidal is one particular rumour that refuses to relent, although it remains to be seen if any agreement with Juventus can be reached for the Chilean international prior to Monday's deadline.
Outgoings on the horizon
While further incomings are expected at Manchester United, it would also appear that several fringe players will be departing before the window slams shut.
The quartet of Wilfried Zaha, Tom Cleverley, Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernandez have all been the subject of transfer bids in recent days, and it seems that Van Gaal is willing to let them go and revive their stalling careers elsewhere.
