Ivanovic couldn't win the US Open (©GettyImages). Ana Ivanovic is one of the highest-profile female stars on the circuit, and her profile could raise even further if rumours on a relationship with Bastian Schweinsteiger prove to be true.
German newspaper Bild published pictures on their front page of the pair holding hands during a cosy stroll in New York.
Neither athlete has commented on any potential love interest but if they are together then it seems as though sport could have a new golden couple - watch out Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov.
Love story?
The pair are clearly friends at the very least. Ivanovic decided to nominate Schweinsteiger - as well as Roger Federer and Serena Williams - following her Ice Bucket Challenge a few weeks ago.
Despite a testing time at the US Open, the Serbian star seemingly had a good reason to stay in the 'Big Apple' - the world no.10 was shocked in just the second round by the lowly-ranked Karolína Plíšková.
Perhaps the 26-year-old beauty was seeking some winning advice from the Bayern Munich midfielder, he's certainly had a successful summer in his field.
The 30-year-old played a key role as Germany won the World Cup in Brazil and his efforts saw him rewarded with the national team captaincy after club team-mate Philipp Lahm retired from international football.

Difficult situation
Before Ivanovic and Schweinsteiger rush into anything too serious, they would do well to look at where other celebrity-sporting couples have gone wrong.
The best - or worst - example of a struggling relationship recently was Ivanovic's fellow racquet star Caroline Wozniacki, who was engaged to golfer Rory McIlroy.
Their relationship was halted by McIlroy despite having already sent the wedding invites. That decision now appears to have been justified, however; the Northern Irishman has dominated on-course while Wozniacki equalled her best-ever showing at a Grand Slam when she reached the final at Flushing Meadows last week.
Of course just because Wozniacki and McIlroy didn't have their happily-ever-after it doesn't mean that nobody else can either.
Sharapova and Dimitrov appear to be going strong both on and off court while another golfer, Tiger Woods, is involved in a high-profile relationship with skier Lindsay Vonn.
Busy time
For now it might be best for this potential couple to focus on their work - they'll both be busy in the next few months.
Schweinsteiger will be looking to continue his club's domination of the Bundesliga, whilst also defending his country's tag as defending champions of the world - their first competitive match saw beating Argentina saw them struggle to defeat Scotland.
Ivanovic, meanwhile, will hunt the winning formula on-court, the former world no.1 is yet to add to her Grand Slam title haul following her maiden triumph at the 2008 French Open.
