Manchester United have opened talks with Italian outfit AS Roma over the potential signing of midfield ace Kevin Strootman.
As reported by the Daily Star, the Red Devils want to bring the Dutch midfielder to the club in January, as new boss Louis van Gaal looks to improve the club's options in the middle of the park.

Strootman
Manchester United manager Van Gaal is certainly an admirer of Strootman, and may well have targeted him in this transfer window if it wasn't for his lengthy lay-off. The midfielder missed this past summer's World Cup because of a cruciate ligament injury, but is expected to be fit before the January transfer window.
It appears that the Red Devils, who have been extremely busy in this market, could pay as much as £35 million for the player's services, according to the same report.
Double deal
With the Strootman deal on hold until 2015, Van Gaal looks set to strengthen before tomorrow's deadline. The same report has suggested that the Red Devils are looking to tie up deals for Dutch duo Nigel de Jong and Daley Blind.
Both players could play in the holding midfield role at Old Trafford, and would certainly help the club after a disastrous start to this season. The Red Devils are still without a win under the new regime, and will be hoping to get things right once the transfer window closes.
