Jim Troughton bows out at Warwickshire with hilarious song

Jim Troughton bowed out of Warwickshire CCC with a hilarious and emotional goodbye song about his fondest moments at the club, before dedicating his career to his wife and daughters.

The 35-year-old, who is the brother-in-law of county team-mate and England batsman, Ian Bell, took to the stage with guitar in hand to perform a memorable song he had written himself, to the tune of a Bob Marley classic.

At several occasions throughout the song, he had to stop playing to recover himself as he was on the verge of tears, but Troughts, who has played his whole career at the Bears, held himself together to see out the song which was captured on video by one of the spectators.

After-dinner speaker?

After his long career in cricket, the six-time ODI player is now looking to get into after-dinner speaking, and after his acoustic cameo, he certainly is not shy to get up in front of a big audience and share his stories.

The much-admired star announced his retirement on 19 August 2014 with immediate effect due to a back injury.

Over the course of his career, he averaged a well-respected 40 plus in the four-day county game.

Humorous and tear-jerking

One of the highlights of the song was his dedication to Ian Bell and their achievements together: "B&H final me and 'Belly', 2002 a highlight for me, and who'd have thought nine years later, he'd be my bro-in-law to be."

Before mocking his own England career by singing: "My time with England was forgettable, oh I should have stayed in bed; missed out on that year's winter tour, they went for Strauss instead." This was met with howling laughter from his adoring audience.

After a brilliant career for Warwickshire, he couldn't have bowed out on a more memorable and humorous note. It's safe to say the Bears will not be the same without Jim Troughout around the place.
