Ryder Cup 2014 rewind: Winners & Losers

Welcome, one and all, to the 2014 Ryder Cup awards! First up, 'Best Pairing'...

Best Pairing:

Nominees - Henrik Stenson & Justin Rose, Patrick Reed & Jordan Spieth, Victor Dubuisson & Graeme McDowell.

Winners: Henrik Stenson & Justin Rose

Hard to deny these two a deserved victory, after they bagged three out of a possible three points as a partnership for Team Europe. Great work lads.

Best Individual:

Nominees - Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Patrick Reed, Jamie Donaldson, Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Victor Dubuisson.

Winner: Patrick Reed

Fist-pumping, eye-bulging, and belly-bouncing his way to the award is outspoken Texan Patrick Reed. Three and a half points from a possible four, and a singles win over in-form Henrik Stenson are no mean feats. He could be USA's Ian Poulter for year's to come...

Best Captain:

Nominees: Paul McGinley, Tom Watson.

Winner: Paul McGinley

Team Europe's leader got the better of his more senior opponent almost every step of the way. His wildcards (Ian Poulter 1/3, Stephen Gallacher 0/2, and Lee Westwood 2/4) may not have contributed many points, but other than that Mr. McGinley nailed a lot of key decisions and the scoreline reflects that.

Best Captain Slaying:

Nominees - Phil Mickelson, Phil Mickelson, Phil Mickelson.

Winner: Phil Mickelson

Needless to say that Lefty had this one in the bag as soon as he chose to put down the efforts of Tom Watson, and those of Davis Love III, and Corey Pavin, in front of the world's media and the skipper himself. Ouch.

Best Vice-Captain:

Nominees - Sam Torrance, Jose Maria Olazabal, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Des Smyth, Ray Floyd, Andy North, Steve Stricker.

Winner: Miguel Angel Jimenez

Big Mig takes home this trophy, and the reasons for his victory are as follows: He's great at giving hugs, and he's unfailingly cool.

Best Rookie:

Nominees - Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Jimmy Walker, Victor Dubuisson, Jamie Donaldson

Winner: Jamie Donaldson

Winning the 'Best Individual' crown makes you ineligible to win 'Best Rookie' so Patrick Reed was discounted from the running. JD therefore swoops in to take this one courtesy of his three points from four, and for being the man who sealed the victory.

Best Team:

Nominees - Team Europe, Team USA

Winners: Team Europe

No words needed.
