Shannon Briggs claims David Haye backed out of fight with him and was only using him to gain publicity

Shannon Briggs has slammed David Haye for using him to gain publicity and then backing out of their fight.

Briggs and Haye were rumored to be in talks about a potential clash after several heated exchanges between the two boxers online, but the UK fighter now seems more interested in pursuing a domestic fight.

Tony Bellew and Anthony Joshua __have been mentioned in recent weeks as possible opponents and Briggs is furious that Haye used him to get himself noticed.

‘He’s a hype man, a hype machine right now,’ Briggs told Sky Sports.

‘He’s just riding the wave.

‘I’ve caused a lot of commotion and a lot of people are now paying attention to him, who weren’t paying attention to him before. No one was interested in David Haye.

‘He’s not the first person to do that, Klitschko did the same thing as well.

‘These guys use the publicity train of the champ to make a name for themselves.’

Briggs claims a fight was in place between the two heavyweights before Haye went running scared.

‘David backed out, he’s not a man of his word,’ Briggs told Sky Sports.

‘It boils down to basically him being an opportunist.’

He added: ‘For him to back out, to pursue possibly a Tony Bellew fight, or I’ve heard he’s in talks with Joshua.

‘We know and I know personally that David is afraid of me.’
