Sparta Prague pair train with women's side after making sexist comments about female assistant referee

Two Sparta Prague players have been ordered to train with the club's women's squad after making sexist remarks about a female assistant referee stating: 'Women belong in the kitchen.'

The incident occurred following Sparta's 3-3 draw with Zbrojovka Brno in the Czech First League last Sunday. Referee's assistant Lucie Ratajova failed to spot Alois Hycka straying offside, with the Brno midfielder firing in a last-minute equaliser.

Speaking after the game, Sparta goalkeeper Tomas Koubek said: 'Women belong in the kitchen,' before adding: 'Women should not officiate men's football.'

To add further insult, midfielder Lukas Vacha, who missed the game with an injury, branded Ratajova as 'the cooker'.

The pair have since apologised for the remarks with Koubek issuing a public apology via his Facebook page on Monday.

'Yesterday in Brno was an error that caused a lot of emotion,' he posted.

'I immediately after the game said something that I regret and for which I would like to apologise to all women.

'(The comment) was not meant (to be) chauvinistic, my statement was directed at a specific person and a specific situation that arose in the match. And in turn, I love my girls, and I want to have accomplished something we can be proud. '

Koubek and Vacha will now train with the women's side in a bid to repair some of the damage caused by their post-match comments.

'The players will spend several days with the club's female side so that they can be made aware that women have plenty of worth outside the kitchen,' Sparta's director general Adam Kotalik told Czech daily Lidove noviny

The duo will be familiar to Southampton fans having started in Sparta's 3-0 defeat at the St Mary's in their Europa League meeting last month.

Charlie Austin's first-half brace and a late strike from Jay Rodriguez secured a much-needed victory for the Saints.
