The French striker came off the bench this afternoon to net a quick-fire brace on the way to an emphatic 4-1 Arsenal win at the Stadium of Light.

Giroud has not been without his critics down the years, and has endured a difficult start to this season after losing his place up front.

Alexis Sanchez has been preferred out of position in a new-look striker role, but it was Giroud who saved the day for the Gunners in today’s game.

Brought on as a sub, the 30-year-old scored with each of his first two touches of the ball to put Arsenal in charge, and win over super-fan Claude in the process.
