Graham Taylor died at the age of 72 on Thursday and is responsible for providing one of the most candid documentaries in the history of English football.
An Impossible Job was released in 1994 following England’s failure to qualify for the World Cup in the United States that same year.
The film highlighted the extreme difficulties Taylor faced with the English media, below-par players and the intense stress and scrutiny that came with the job.
Here are Taylor’s five best moments from the documentary…
1. CAN WE NOT KNOCK IT?
England’s drab 1-1 draw against Poland provided two standout highlights from the bench as Taylor delivered two knockout lines.
2. DO I NOT LIKE THAT
England’s woeful passing in midfield, which resulted in a goal for Poland, was nicely summed up by Taylor.
3. GO LES
Les Ferdinand’s lack of service in an England shirt really got on Taylor’s nerves.
4. PLATT GETS AN EARFUL
As did David Platt when he got England’s tactics in a muddle.
5. THE REFEREE’S JUST GOT ME THE SACK
The pivotal defeat in Taylor’s reign came against Netherlands, who were fortunate not to __have Ronald Koeman sent off for a last-man challenge.
Taylor was apoplectic on the touchline and made his feelings clear to any match official within earshot.
