Wenger admitted afterwards that he shouldn’t __have allowed Sanchez to play after the interval and said he feared the Chilean had sustained ankle ligament damage.

Wenger said Sanchez’s ankle was in a ‘terrible’ state after the defeat at the Hawthorns and will no doubt be concerned with Sanchez’s involvement in Chile’s two qualifiers.

The Frenchman was furious with Chile’s ‘suicidal’ decision to play Sanchez during the last international break in November when he was carrying a slight injury and the 66-year-old will feel similar feelings this time around.
