Ozil DEMANDS Wenger to do one ‘important’ thing

Hernandez left Old Trafford for good last August after becoming surplus to requirements under Louis van Gaal, despite having registered 37 goals in a 103 appearances for the club.

The Mexico international was snapped up by Bayer Leverkusen, having also impressed on loan at Real Madrid, and has rediscovered the goalscoring touch in the Bundesliga.

Chicharito’s form, coupled with United’s own recent struggles in front of goal, led Mourinho to claim he would never have sold the 28-year-old and on Friday suggested he’d be honing in on the Golden Boot this term had he still been at Old Trafford.

Despite recently becoming the joint all-time leading goalscorer for his country, Hernandez hasn’t always been selected from the start in recent internationals and on Saturday liked a tweet from a fan who saw the irony in Mourinho’s claims compared to his treatment by Mexico boss Juan Carlos Osorio.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been an unqualified success since his summer move to the Premier League and has 26 goals in all competitions, but the rest of United’s forwards have struggled to match the veteran Swede’s consistency.

Following last weekend’s stalemate against West Brom, Mourinho criticised the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingaard and Anthony Martial.

‘What I can say is that we tried, we had six players, for me, absolutely phenomenal in their game, in their attitude, in their mentality, in their consistency – Valencia, Bailly, Rojo, Young, Carrick and Fellaini,’ Mourinho told MUTV.

‘Then you have four creative players, four players who you need to score a goal for you, and they didn’t.

‘They had flashes, they had glimpses, they had moments but they don’t have consistency, and we pay two more points for that.’
