Villegas won the Wyndham Championship by one shot (©GettyImages). Camilo Villegas produced a magnificent seven-under par 63 to win the $5.3 million Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield by one shot.
The Colombian finished on 17-under par for the tournament and saw off the challenge of Bill Haas and Freddie Jacobson who both finished one shot adrift of him.
Villegas had a flawless round that included five birdies and an eagle that saw him clinch his fourth victory on the PGA Tour and his first since the 2010 Honda Classic.
Villegas closed his round with three straight pars but the 32-year old had to wait an agonising 40 minutes as clubhouse leader as he watched his nearest challengers stumble.
Delighted with victory
Villegas admitted his delight at winning his first event for three-and-a-half years, becoming the first South American to do so, and was pleased with his performance.
"It worked out my way. I played great on the first day. I played well today. I felt confident on the course. There were nerves, but that's part of the game," Villegas told CBS.
"It's been three-and-a-half years without a win. I always work hard. I always grind. I love the game, but it starts getting to you. I feel a little lighter, I feel great."
Heath Slocum was two shots adrift of Villegas after his round of 67, however he was at 17 under at one stage but committed two bogeys.
Overnight leader Nick Watney could only manage an even par final round which meant he remained at 14 under. He had led with just seven holes remaining but double bogeyed the 18th after slicing his tee shot out of bounds.
Jacobson only needed a par on the final hole to force a play-off with Villegas but he rolled his 11 foot putt past the hole and made bogey.
The Swede revealed his frustration at not forcing the play-off, feeling that it was going to be his day through the back nine.

"It really sucks when you play solid all day," Jacobson told reporters. "I really thought it was my day coming in."
Brandt Snedeker and Webb Simpson finished alongside Watney on 14 under after they both posted rounds of 67.
Scotland's Martin Laird was the highest home nations finisher on 11 under par with England's Paul Casey a further shot adrift.
