This week marks the 20th anniversary of the event and the second year that it has enjoyed major status on the Ladies tour. Set between the mountains and Lake Geneva this venue hosts the games only major in continental Europe. The views are breath-taking and it’s a favourite amongst many of the players.

Paula Creamer: "It’s our fifth major of the year. Obviously people are going to pay more attention to events with the major in front of their name. But this has always been one of our favourite events and I think a lot of people have realised that and the TV coverage is much better throughout the world and people are able to watch it because it is a major now."

Everyone’s excited to see the reigning US Open Champion Michelle Wie back in the field this week. She’s ready to go having missed the last few weeks with a hand injury.

Michelle Wie: "It was definitely a lot of patience involved and what not, but I’m proud of how I handled the rehab. I really listened to my doctors this time which is really hard to do for me! But I feel good, I was able to practice a bit before coming here. I mean it was just one tournament that I didn’t want to miss so I’m really happy to be here."

Michelle is part of a field that will take on this course at Evian despite being a hundred years old – has been totally renovated since being elevated to a major a few years ago.

Jessica Korda: "The golf course has changed a bunch you know it’s changed so much. It plays a lot differently than it did the first year I was here. Obviously last year it’s tough to compare anything because we only played three days because of the tough conditions. We did get a lot of rain. Here it’s playing a little bit more firm and fast so it’ll be interesting."

Last year’s event was reduced to 54 holes due to bad weather, but still produced plenty of drama. Despite being an amateur at the time, Lydia Ko was well in contention and pushed eventual champion Suzanne Petterson all the way on Sunday.

Lydia Ko: "It was sad that it became a three day tournament rather than a four one, but Suzanne played some awesome golf and it was great for me that I got an opportunity to play with a player like her in the final group on the final day. I remember just having lots of fun and that’s what I’m going to do out here and if I get great results then that’s great. I mean this course is in good condition so I’m excited to get started."
