Jonathan Trott scored his second County Championship century of the summer on Wednesday as Warwickshire kept their slim title chances alive by taking the upper hand in their encounter at home to Northamptonshire.
The already-relegated side were dismissed for just 273 batting first, before the hosts raced to a commanding lead of 300 when they declared. And the former England man played a pivotal role in assembling that deficit, scoring 164 in a 360-run partnership with Sam Hain (208).
With a strong lead already built, the recently crowned T20 Blast champions have maintained the possibility of pipping Yorkshire to the Division One title.

Reliable
Whilst Trott was out-scored by his younger teammate – who is enjoying an outstanding debut campaign of first-class cricket – he exhibited his familiar style of gradually accumulating runs for a long period of time.
The 33-year-old spent 312 balls at the crease over the course of 445 minutes as he took the game away from his opponents once again.
Just as we have witnessed him nonchantly knock off more than 6000 international runs, Trott is now finding his feet in domestic cricket after a difficult six months.
Consistent
This resounding knock is not the first triple-figure score that the South African-born batsman has recorded this summer. A first hundred since he left England’s Ashes tour of
Australia with a stress-related illness came at Hove back in July.
After months without reaching three figures, his ton against Sussex sparked further centuries to follow. A lucrative run to the final of the Royal London One Day Cup with
Warwickshire has included Trott knocks of 106 and 108 against Durham and Nottinghamshire respectively.
Fluid strokeplay and patience have seemingly left the man who has played 49 Test matches for England. However, despite showing good signs of form with the bat,Trott is
currently content to just be competing in county cricket.
Focused
Speaking after recording his second four-day century of the season, the batsman revealed that he is happy at Warwickshire and has also been in contact with the England set-up.
He said: “I’m loving it. It’s refreshing to be back here at Warwickshire and enjoying it, just being one of the guys and trying to help the players when the time’s right and when called upon.
“It’s fantastic to be able to give back and be part of a successful team.
“I’ve been in contact with the backroom staff but I’m just going about my business, nothing really with regards with the team. They’ve been really successful in the last few Test matches, and it’s just about me playing well for Warwickshire, doing what I do and playing as well as I can.”
Remainder of season
In the absence of international duty to busy himself with, Trott is finding plenty to do with
Warwickshire. The Bears still have an outside chance of winning the treble, with an outside chance of surpassing Yorkshire in the County Championship and a 50-over Lord’s final against Durham still to come.
While the former England star didn’t play any cricket on T20 Final’s Day, there is no doubt that he will have a big role to play in the remaining weeks of the 2014 county season.
