Saint-Etienne midfielder Bryan Dabo has claimed he thought he was watching Thierry Henry when he first saw Anthony Martial play.

The Manchester United star has been compared to the Arsenal legend in the past, and Dabo saw the similarities during their time together in France’s under-21s.

‘With France’s U21s, when I saw Anthony Martial, I thought I was watching Thierry Henry. Considering his age, all the things he was doing actually shocked me,’ the 24-year-old told France Football when asked which footballers had made the greatest impression on him.

Martial hasn’t been in top form this season, with manager Jose Mourinho playing him out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front.

However, the France international, still only 20-years-old, has plenty of time to live up to these lofty comparisons. Especially after scoring 11 goals in 31 Premier League matches last season.

Both Martial and Henry spent part of their early careers as left-wingers at AS Monaco, and have made a splash in the Premier League – albeit with the younger man yet to reach the heights of the Gunners hero.
