Kristyna Pliskova has randomly received the backing of actor Russell Crowe after her loss to Angelique Kerber at the Australian Open.
The 24-year-old Czech ace was comfortably beaten by the world No. 1, losing the first eight games before eventually going down 6-0 6-4.
Who could Murray face in the Australian Open final after Djokovic’s exit? But despite the defeat, the world No. 58 has been strangely tipped for stardom by an unlikely source.
The Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind actor was clearly watching on and he liked what he saw from Pliskova, whose twin sister Karolina is ranked fifth in the world.
And Crowe took to Twitter to back her to go onto great things.
@KrisPliskova you will be a champion, if you decide to be … You are more powerful than you realise . Strength and honour

‘@KrisPliskova you will be a champion, if you decide to be…’ he tweeted.
‘You are more powerful than you realise.

We’re utterly bemused about what the link is between the two and we’re not even particularly sure what champion qualities Crowe saw on the basis of that match, but Pliskova can take some comfort in knowing she earned herself a very famous fan today…
