Jamie Redknapp believes Arsene Wenger’s revelation that he tried to sign N’Golo Kante in the summer is a ‘terrible indictment’ of Arsenal’s status in the Premier League.
After firing Leicester City to the title last season, Kante was the subject of interest from several clubs but eventually joined Chelsea for around £30million.
Chelsea ace Willian reveals the MAJOR difference between Conte and MourinhoAhead of Arsenal’s crucial trip to Chelsea, Wenger admitted he twice tried to bring the midfielder to the Emirates – while he was in France and during his stay at Leicester.
But Redknapp says it is ‘not good enough’ for Wenger to miss out on a top target, particularly as Chelsea were the beneficiaries.
‘Arsene Wenger was asked about Kante on Friday and he said: “we tried to sign him twice”. Well, for me, that’s not good enough,’ Redknapp said.
‘Why did you nearly sign him? Why didn’t you sign him?
‘Arsenal are in the Champions League, if they want to push the boat out they’ve got the money to compete.
‘But that’s a terrible indictment of where Arsenal are that they couldn’t bring him in if they wanted to. He would __have been the perfect fit for them.’
Kante, 25, has continued his incredible form at Stamford Bridge and has been a huge influence in the club’s stunning climb to the top of the league.
And Redknapp believes the France international could __have been the difference for Arsenal when they dropped points this season.

‘No disrespect to Watford but they’re a poor team without pace, a mish-mash of players and I fancy them to get dragged into a relegation fight.
