Van Persie has a great relationship with Van Gaal. . Robin van Persie has claimed that he played no part in Manchester United's hiring of Louis van Gaal but did say he would like to become a director of football one day.
The Netherlands national coach was chosen to take charge at Old Trafford following the dismissal of David Moyes with reports suggesting Van Persie had played a key role in the move. Van Persie was seen with Van Gaal at a number of games in the build up to Moyes' sacking.
Director of football
Journalists jokingly asked whether or not Van Persie took the role of director of football and recommended Van Gaal to Manchester United officials. Van Persie said he had no influence over the club's final decision, but did say he would like to take a position of that nature in the near future.
When asked if he had a role to play in the decision, Van Persie told RTL: "No I don't have that function. Maybe in the future I can become director of football!"
Close relationship
The reason behind the cheeky question was because it is well known that the striker and Van Gaal share a very close relationship. The manager gave Van Persie the captain's armband as soon as he took charge of the national team and has been backed to do the same at Manchester United.

On their close relationship, Van Persie said: "Yes, we have a very strong bond. It has been good since day one.
"He has that [a good relationship] with almost all of his players. Everyone respects him, everyone believes in him."
Manchester United captain
The future captain of Manchester United has been up in the air ever since it was confirmed Nemanja Vidic would be leaving. The natural candidate for the job is current vice-captain Patrice Evra, but he is also being linked with a move away.
At 33, he would also be a short term option. That led many fans to Wayne Rooney. The Englishman has been the talisman of Manchester United for almost a decade and has been backed to flourish under the role.
However, Van Gaal's strong relationship with Van Persie could well mean the Dutchman gets the nod.
